My ex boyfriend has stolen my dog and had her for about a month. I have filed a police report but he has moved and i do not have his current address. I have her micro chipped under my name when i bought her plus her papers and pet license. I was going to take my ex to court but have no idea where he lives or what type of lawyer to get?

You need a Dog Lawyer of course. Dog Lawyers can be hard to find. Try to get a referral from a Dog. Or you can go down to the Dog Bar Association. You can’t call on the phone because dogs do not know how to use phones.

They make damn fine lawyers, though.

You basically will and can use any lawyer but it depends on the value of the dog. You more than likely can take him to small claims court (which you do not need a lawyer) just present proof that it is your dog and witnesses statements or something of that nature. As for locating him I understand that to been there and done that. Best advice for you is search listings on the internet under people finder. They can locate him by his job or address and either one will work when filing against him.

Unless your dog is worth more than 5,000 dollars, then you are limited to Small Claims Court, which doesn’t permit Attorney representation.

If the dog is worth more than 5000, or you want to make a claim of intentional infliction of emotional distress, then consult with a personal injury attorney.

A private investigator can find your ex pretty easily. It will cost you several hundred dollars, however.
